Prevent Early Roof Deterioration

Cleaning your roof every 4 or 5 years is important because it not only keeps it beautiful, but it also prevents early deterioration. The signs to look for when it is time to clean your roof include the presence of fungus, algae, lichen or moss that may be building up on your roof.

Moss and lichen can cause your shingles to peel away from the adhesive connecting them to the adjacent shingle and blow off in a storm or strong wind. As the moss causes the roof to degrade, you might experience more serious problems like wood rot and decay down the line.

Most homeowners think that the ugly black streaks on their roofs are normal shingle wear and tear and many replace their roofs prematurely. That ugly black streaks are caused by the bacteria called Gloeocapsa Magma (GM), often known as "algae growth on the roof". The GM feeds of both asphalt and limestone roofing causing early deterioration of the roof.
